The site for the Zaferanieh Residential Building is located to the North of the city of Tehran. It is situated amongst the green orchards of the Alborz mountains, at one of the highest urban altitudes and with a comprehensive view to the city. The primary design tenet is that the project reflect a level of luxury representative of the affluent residents as well as the high property value.

The design objective was to create an integrative relationship between structure and context, and to optimize the site’s particular assets, including expansive views and green spaces. As the green spaces are concentrated to the East of the site, the project is divided into two blocks and the West block is shifted South to allow views from each block to both natural and urban views.

The residential units follow a modular design, such that each unit is a tri-axis module which generates the global form through varying tetris-like orientations and 180 degree rotations. The local modular form and associations create dynamic in-between spaces which draw the external surroundings within the boundary of the built form, resulting in an interlacing of open and closed spaces and global form. Consequently, by shifting the modular axes, each unit also includes diverse covered terraces with varying views and amenities, such as private swimming pools, while incorporating vertical gardens throughout the building.
